3 Things You May Not Know About the Library

This isn’t your average library. The librarians at APUS make it their mission to provide students and faculty with the highest quality of information and support. Learning how to balance your studies with your daily life is no easy task, and learning your way around a new digital library may seem daunting. So, how can a student best leverage their valuable library resources?

1. Our team of librarians are ready to assist.

We’ve tried to make it easy to get started with your research (just use the big Everything search box on the library’s homepage!).  But, research is challenging, so you’ll probably have questions. At the Richard G. Trefry Library, librarians are standing by to answer those questions every single day (including evenings, weekends and holidays!). Not only are they expert researchers, but helping students is the highlight of their jobs. Find out how you can connect with them (by email, live chat or screensharing sessions) on the library’s Ask a Librarian page.

2. We have resources for night owls.

If you hit a research snag during those few hours a day that a librarian isn’t online, check our frequently-asked questions site, LibAnswers. You can find answers on research skills, citing your sources, writing tips and more. We’ve also got some fantastic video tutorials, self-help guides to research and writing, and a link to tutoring services.  Look for these great tools under the library’s RESEARCH and RESOURCES menus on the library’s website.

3. Subject pages can help you dive deep into your research topic.

The library subscribes to thousands of online books and journals, so it’s no wonder that students often wonder where to begin searching. Librarians have created subject pages which are designed to help you find the most relevant research tools and learning resources. You’ll find library subscriptions (e.g., article databases and books) and high-quality websites–even video and social networking sites–tailored to your class topics. Explore them all in the library’s SUBJECTS A-Z menu.

As always, we invite you to reach out to the librarians for additional assistance. No matter what degree you’re working on, we can assist you in researching any topic you may encounter. We love a good research challenge and don’t believe in “dumb” questions – so don’t be shy – ask us!
