FERPA

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requires educational institutions to protect student’s information and employees are held to that responsibility. University staff must verify the identity of the student or authorized to access a student’s record.

Inquires that do not require access to a student’s record or are general inquires can be answered without verification.

FERPA Verifying Information

Student name and the answer to two security questions (you may be asked for your Student ID, email address, etc. to locate your records)

FERPA Release Forms

A FERPA Release form allows a third party to discuss your student record, based on the authorization assigned on the form. However, it does not authorize transaction on your behalf. Please reach out to [email protected] to request this form. You must fill out this form completely and submit the FERPA Release form to [email protected] along with your valid state-issued ID (this is a requirement.) If the form has not been filled out completely/accurately or state-issued ID is not submitted with it, we will be unable to process. Once the form is submitted and it’s been checked for accuracy, a staff member of the Office of the Registrar will process your form and notify you through your email address on file.

Power of Attorney

A Power of Attorney allows a third party to take action on your account. These forms are not provided to you by the University. The Form should state for educational purposes within, or it should be a military general POA form. A state-issued ID is required from the third party, in order for the form to be processed. If the ID is not received or the form does not state for education or a military POA, the University will be unable to process.
