Registering for Classes using Federal Student Aid

At APUS, we operate on a non-traditional semester schedule with courses starting monthly and most classes being in an 8 week format.

  • To be a full-time undergraduate student you will register for 12 credit hours per semester and select at least 6 credit hours to start in the first month of your first semester, and at least 6 credit hours that start when those classes end, so there is no overlap.
  • To be a half-time undergraduate student you will register for at least 6 credit hours per semester and select at least 3 credit hours that start in the first month of your first semester, and 3 credit hours that starts when that class ends, so there is no overlap.

Sample Schedules

Full-Time Enrollment (four 8 week courses in the first 4-month semester - 16 weeks total)

To Register:

  1. Click Register Now within the top banner of the ecampus
  2. Click on a blue course heading within the Academic Plan
  3. Click on the blue Register Now in the middle of the page titled Course Details
  4. Answer the question regarding using Federal Student Aid (FSA) then click Continue Registration
    • If you answer "Yes" to the FSA question, you will be prompted to select when your Academic Year will start. Select your desired month and click Continue Registration. Please note, there is a minimum of 11 day requirement to establish a confirmed FSA award
    • If you answer "No" to the FSA question, you will be asked if you plan to defer Federal Student Aid loans. Answer the question and then click Continue Registration
  5. Choose your start date for the course by clicking the circle to the left of the course name/start date, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Continue Registration
  6. Read the Attendance Policy and click Continue Registration
  7. Continue adding courses or Complete Registration
    • If you are choosing more classes, click on Continue Adding courses. You will be directed back to your Academic Plan for your next course selection (follow steps 2 through 6)
    • If you are finished choosing courses, click Complete Registration
  8. Verify your email address and shipping address, and click Select Payment Options
  9. Choose Federal Student Aid. At the bottom of the page, click Next
  10. Read the payment information and click Next
  11. Review the registration confirmation
    • If you need a copy for your records, click Print
  12. You will then be prompted to complete the items inside your Financial Aid Office
